“… to fault a net for having holes” is made up of mended and melted produce nets saved up by the artist over years. The plastic meshes form an unstable matrix, recalling the Pacific Garbage Patch, used fishing nets, topography. Fruits in a state of desiccation and rot hang suspended or fall through gaps in the web. Consumption, disposability, broken supply chains, patchy support networks, obsolescent bodies— are themes of the work, which takes its title from the writer Maggie Nelson, and pays homage to Zoe Leonard’s Strange Fruit.

Prints on onion skin paper accompany the installation, referencing text from Nelson, plastics scientist Max Liboiron and Taschen’s Symbols ‘nets’ entry.
